All this hulla baloo about the IPL, lack of good releases and the producer’s strike against the multiplexes, the ardent moviegoer is hurting for choices or so I thought when I was asked to churn up a review of a film this week. Not finding too much time with the kids lately, I decided to pick the animated film by Dream Works, Monsters Vs Aliens and convinced the kids it could be great daddy bonding time. And it worked. Oh My Gawwwd! This 3 D stuff is great. I mean this technology has come a long way and I can think of many visual uses for this stuff. Ok back to kids flicks, the kids had fascinated looks on them and the kids in us adults were equally awestruck, judging by the sounds of oooh and aaaahs in the theater. So this was an instant winner already.
The plot line itself was pretty comic superhero-ish where a meteorite from outer space hits a young California woman named Susan Murphy (in the voice of Reese Witherspoon) and turns her into a giant monster, she is taken to a secret government compound where she meets other monsters also rounded up over the years for failed science experiments on earth. The evil galaxor chases after the material embedded in the meteorite and invades earth. The US president, as a last resort, deploys the motley crew of Monsters into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction! And do they....?? You just have to watch it .. In 3D.
The language was simple and the comic timing of the actors with their voices would force a smile out of you regardless of how grumpy you were before sitting down. So if you want to bring a smile on some faces,,. take them for this movie if not for anything else, only because I gave it 4 meows out of five.
