“Make me like him, please!”

A ten minutes break from studies—
Rohan runs to his favorite,
White marble window-sill of their store room,
At the first floor of their four-storied house—
Wherefrom Raju’s slum hut was best visible.

Raju, however, needed no break—
From studies.
He had to rush through the glasses
Of the tea-shop his father ran
And hurried to occupy the seat
Of his eldest brother’s rickshaw.

Above the blue skies,

Life’s nothing but a mirage
Full of lies and empty dreams

I still dream—
Of unfulfilled wishes,
Of unaccomplished goals,
So what if the ground beneath
Has softened;
So what if I’ve drowned till the neck—

The mud around me is soft
